General Information about Erma Volunteer Fire Company

We, the Members Of The Erma Volunteer Fire Company, “Dedicated Volunteers Since 1956”, serve the Residents Of Fire District #3: Cold Spring, Diamond Beach, Erma, Fishing Creek, and Shawcrest, as well as other areas when called upon.

In our District alone, we cover and help protect the County Airport, a section of the railroad, Garden State Parkway, and many marinas and fisheries. This Includes many, many sea vessels, both commercial and pleasure.

We also have public schools, campgrounds, large condominium complexes, points of interest, and you.

And Our Community Is Growing Every Day!!

Our job is much easier to do with the help and support of you, our friends and neighbors.

MEMBERSHIP

MEMBERSHIP IS OPEN TO BOTH FEMALES AND MALES AT LEAST 16 YEARS OF AGE

We need people interested in fire fighting, or administrative skills

There are 3 Types Of Membership here at Erma Fire Co., Station 62

Contributing Member – Must be at least 18 years of age and a Lower Township Resident. A Contributing Member will be subject to a police background check. (A record does not necessarily mean rejection.) A Contributing Member will have very limited Fire Duties.

Junior Firefighter – Must be 16-18 years of age and a Resident of Lower Township. Must obtain permission from parent or legal guardian, and working papers. Junior Firefighters will be on all fire calls EXCEPT - NO HAZARDOUS MATERIALS CALLS OR JAWS OF LIFE ASSIGNMENTS. They will attend Drills, and Firefighting Classes.

Active Firefighter – An Active Firefighter must Be 18 years of age or older, and must be a Lower Township Resident, be in good health and character, must have a physical, and must have a Police background check (a record does not necessarily mean rejection), and must complete the Firefighter 1 Course Within two (2) years of acceptance into the Company as a firefighter. We provide you with the Personal Protective Equipment that you will need to attend schools and ride the apparatus with us.. As a Senior member, you will serve one year as a probationary member so that we can evaluate your skills and participation in the department. You will be required to make a certain percentage of our company meeting and functions as well as maintain an active status as a fire fighter candidate.
